It may seem like the simplest solution in the moment to create one generic user for your whole team to use or to share your own credentials with a colleague or web developer because they only need temporary access.
Before you start adding users, here are some things to consider:
- Allowing users outside of your company renders your business vulnerable to unauthorized activity and potential security breaches.
- While you can have more than one Master user, we recommend limiting full access to owners and upper management. Master users can create users with limited permissions to restrict privileges and access to certain information. If you will be adding multiple users with the same settings, you can speed up the process by creating custom roles.
- Each merchant is responsible for monitoring transaction and user activity.
- Default settings are no guarantee against chargebacks or fraud liability. Changing settings, such as fraud tools, could impact fraud liability and affect the likelihood of chargebacks.
- The payment gateway stores and transmits information securely over the Internet; the source key is the code that allows communication between the third party software (shopping cart) and merchant account. Source keys and pins should be treated as sensitive information and only shared securely as needed to avoid unauthorized activity through your merchant account.
- There is no limit to the number of individual users you can add. Giving each user their own login provides tracking within the account for auditing and accountability.
